107-3209 – Three ladies waiting

It was my duty/pleasure/turn to drive into town with my wife on the day I sketched this…plus I knew I would be travelling (and be away for a while) soon. We drove to the Taguig Comelec Office (a branch of the Commission on Elections in the Philippines, which deals with voter registration and certification), which is peculiarly housed (temporarily I assume – or at least it looks temporary), in a parking structure near Vista Mall. In fact the whole structure looks like it is not used by the mall but by the local government. Anyway the whole process was over very quickly so I finished this sketch at home. I think speed helped and this is one of my better sketches of the backs of peoples heads (a common subject for me)!

  1. This is such a delightful reflection! ✨ What makes it so engaging is how you’ve taken a simple errand — a drive into town and a visit to the Comelec office — and turned it into a moment of creativity and observation. The way you describe the scene, from the unusual setting of the office to the quickness of the process, makes the reader feel as though they were right there with you.

I especially love how you highlight the charm of sketching everyday details, like the backs of people’s heads. It shows not only your keen eye for ordinary beauty but also your ability to transform fleeting moments into art. Sometimes speed and spontaneity bring out the most authentic results, and your reflection captures that perfectly

    1. Thank you for your kind thoughts and encouragement. My sketches are my diary. As I get older my memory gets fuzzier, so sketching and looking back on these helps make each small event more memorable
