77-2465 – Face masks

Having moved back into our apartment (ages ago – after getting some refurbishment work done), we are finally getting round to putting up some of the decorations we have accumulated over the years. I’ve sketched them before, but these two masks come from Bhutan. Normally they are colourfully painted. The one with the little skulls is called a Mahakala mask – the scary expression is supposed protect from deception and distractions, keeping negativity away. The one with the big nose is an Atsara mask – more of a clown-like character.

1469 – Round

Here is my sketch for the #WorldWatercolorMonth prompt of “round”. There are many round objects in our house but this is one of the few that I haven’t drawn before. It’s a little metal pot we bought in Bhutan (until I started sketching our knick-knacks I didn’t realise we had collected so many bits and pieces on our travels). I have no idea what this pot was originally intended for!

1460 – Texture

Here is my sketch for day 2 of #WorldWatercolorMonth, the prompt being “texture”. Everything has some kind of texture I guess, but this little pot (which has a bamboo body with a woven covering…another thing we picked up in Bhutan) seemed most appropriate and I haven’t sketched it before. Once I started, I realised why I haven’t drawn it before…I got a bit lost in the complicated pattern!

Day 164 – Souvenirs

ace-164-souvenirs-160913-2-wm

I picked out a few random souvenirs to paint (in ink, watercolour and watercolour pencil) today – a pipe from Cambodia, coral (which I really shouldn’t have) from the Philippines and a little prayer wheel from Bhutan. They all turned out to be brown or variations of yellow and orange – that didn’t make this easy!
