1947 – Street view 6

Here is another sketch done along the main road near where we live. This one shows the new Taguig City Hall, under construction on the right. The design seems includes a massive blank facade of plain concrete at the top…not exactly the most inspiring aesthetic. To the left in the background are the multi-storey buildings of Bonifacio Global City. The sky was blue as I started but as the sun got higher so did the brown smog that hangs over Manila.

This is my last post of 2021 – here’s to a peaceful, happy and above all, covid free 2022.

1946 – Mini juice blender

Usually, after each Christmas, I try to draw the presents I got, as a kind of thank you to those who gave them (though last Christmas I didn’t actually manage to finish sketching them all). This is my first one this year. I got this little USB rechargeable juice blender from my nephew. It will be pretty handy when travelling on holiday or for work.

1944 – Street view 5

I was out again this morning sketching along the street near where we live. This time a traffic policeman had a look at what I was up to – they must think I’m a bit mad. The main building in the foreground is a Starbucks – I think it used to be a showroom for the blocks of flats rising to the far left. Behind Starbucks is a multi-storey car park (which appeared in my last sketch along the road). I did the ink work on the spot, but it started to rain so had to do the painting at home.

1943 – Plumbing remains

Today I spent a lot of my time struggling to change the trap on our bathroom sink, only to find we will have to call in a plumber to do some more substantial work. I do dislike doing plumbing work, but at least it gave me a few bits and pieces to sketch.

1942 – Christmas at the mall

Here is a quick sketch I did at the shopping mall yesterday. We were there to buy some plumbing stuff, to put right some DIY (Destroy It Yourself) I started, making one bathroom sink inoperable. The mall is always a good place to sketch and paint with bright colours!

1941 – Merry Christmas

Here is a simple sketch of one of our Christmas ornaments. Given that today is Christmas eve, I thought it would be appropriate. Also to say thank you and pass on seasons greetings to everyone who has liked, followed, encouraged and commented on my sketching posts over the last few years! Here’s hoping for a peaceful and safe holiday season and that 2022 brings an end to the pandemic for everyone with lots more sketching and creating.

1940 – Street view 4

Here is the next of my morning sketches along the main road near our place. In this one you can see (to the left) the ongoing construction of the new Taguig City Hall (with one of the ugly blocks of flats in the background). To the right is a multi-storey car park with a mall below it. Stupidly I set off to sketch this with my pen running out and the battery running flat on my phone (so I couldn’t finish the podcast I was listening too). All the same, this is always the best way to start my day.
