Usually, if/when I buy fresh pineapple, I pick it out at the market and they peel it in front of you – if you’ve ever seen it done somewhere where pineapples are grown, its quite a skill to behold. Somehow they manage to remove all the seeds and leave you with the best bit by making spiralling cuts with a super sharp knife. When I do it myself its a reall mess.

Here is a quick evening sketch of our TV stand/shelf. There is a bit of competition for space on the shelf – with Christmas decorations, picture frames and the microphone we use for Skype calls. Of course one of our cats often climbs all over this and knocks things off.

This morning I went out to sketch along the street near our house again. After a weekend of rain (and devastating typhoons in the south) it was sunny this morning. This sketch connects with the last one I did along the road – the turquoise roof on the right was on the left of my last drawing. I never realised there are quite so many trees along this road!

I sketched this plant cutting about a week ago. As it was in front of me tonight I thought I’d give it another try. By some miracle it is still alive – although some leaves are starting to go yellow, there are some roots appearing.

Today I only had time for this quick little sketch of one of our Christmas decorations. I think my mum and dad gave us this litle dancer a long time ago. It’s made from clay (apart from the dress) and is quite delicate…amazing that we haven’t broken it yet.

I went out to the main road again today, to sketch the next section along (from the sketch I did yesterday). Along this part of the road are some beautiful talisay trees…plus of course power lines and poles. The building at the top left is the block of apartments from my last sketch and you can just see the tin shed I drew yesterday to the right. I am posting yesterdays and todays sketches joined together as well – even though they don’t really connect together well.

This morning I walked to the entrance of Acacia Estates (the development where we live) and sat by the roadside to sketch this. I think I am going to work my way along the street, sketching all the buildings and joining it all together. Perhaps not every day. It was good to sketch outside, even if the traffic noise was deafening and the view is of an old tin shed and an ugly block of apartments. That grey stripe is someones idea of decoration!

This sketch is of our nice old Christmas tree – well the bottom of two thirds of it. Last year we only managed to stand 1/3 of it on top of the shelf, this year we hit upon the idea of strapping it to the side, stuffing the tubular trunk into a bit of old plastic piping (which is screwed to the shelf). It worked perfectly and is only slightly drunken, instead of almost toppling over like it was last year.

We put our Christmas tree and decorations up today, so I thought I would sketch some of the homemade decorations we have. This one was made when we lived in Syria (about 12 years ago) out of an old light bulb, some paper-mache, a bit of red shiny paper and some pieces of scrap foam rubber. Rudolph has been a bit bashed over the years and is held together with sticky tape, but we still hang him up on our tree every year.
