When I started sketching this I thought, oh no I haven’t got any black in my little travel paint set…but in the end I enjoyed making black with other colours (mostly ultramarine and burnt umber). I could have fiddled about with this when I got back inside (as it was getting gloomy out there), but I decided to leave it (very restrained of me).

My wife did some gardening this morning – which means she gets out her bonsai tools and chops off bits of our plans left, right, and centre! I joked that they look like a set of torture tools you might see in a horror movie.

Here is another drawing I scanned from one of my old sketchbooks. This was done when I was living in Phnom Penh, Cambodia – from the balcony of my friends house (which is what the title half means – it’s a transliteration from Khmer).

Here is just a quick sketch of an untouched bunch of bananas. We bought them green just yesterday but they will be ready to eat tomorrow.

This is a leftover IV bottle from my recent surgery. Instead of disposing of it safely the hospital left it in the room, so we took it home and I am planning to rig it up as a small drip irrigation system for some of our plants. Like the sketch I did yesterday I enjoyed doing the shadows on this one.

I just had time for a quick sketch before going to bed today. My wife was doing some gardening the other day and having given some of our straggly plants a major haircut, put these cuttings in water to see if they will grow some roots. It’s always good to sketch a bit of greenery (along with some interesting looking shadows).

Today I was visiting the hospital again (I do not like hospitals at all – even to sketch) to see my doctor after my recent op. All is well thank goodness. I arrived a bit late thinking I might have missed my appointment, only to find he had temporarily moved his clinic to another building and that there were lots of people in the queue before me. At least that gave me a chance to do this quick sketch (I added the watercolour when I got home) of the socially distanced waiting area.

Sunday has been a lazy day for us and out cats – who have spent the day snoozing on the couch and lolling about. Much like us really. At least they make good subjects for a very quick sketch.

After getting out the ingredients for dinner tonight, I decided to sketch them. We are having roasted carrot soup with almonds and ginger. I made it very quickly after I finished this.
