1921 – My paints are not bright enough

Yesterday I made a trip to the SM Hypermarket in Pasig – mainly because nearby I could easily buy some medicine for our cat. For old time sake (as I used to go to this supermarket most weeks while our daughter was at gymnastics), I stopped at Krispy Kreme for a doughnut and a cup of their horrible brewed coffee (I’d forgotten how rough it is). This was the view from where I sat – my paints don’t do justice to the garish colours of what I could see. I used my Sailor Fude pen to sketch this for a change – its lovely to use but the black ink in it tends to run.

1920 – Wake up juice

Our niece is selling this coffee (and other products) and my wife bought some of the coffee. It has an amazing range of ingredients (mangosteen, collagen, green tea etc.)…but I’m afraid I didn’t like it much – it was too sweet and I could taste the stevia in it as well, which makes me feel a bit queasy!

1919 – Inside outside

Today I was sketching outside in our common ‘club house’ again while chatting online to my friend @TheArtOfBeingPresent. I picked this view because of the contrast between the bar of the cafe (which I have sketched several times before) and the greenery outside. There is just a glimpse of the swimming pool too.

1918 – Market on 5th avenue

On Friday I was having some medical tests done and having spent several hours having bits of me extracted and tested (let’s not go into details) I decided to treat myself with a coffee and a sketch. I sat outside Starbucks in this mall-like area between two wings of the hospital to sketch this. Lesson number one from this: choose a less complicated view – I kind of got lost trying to sketch what I could see behind the staircase and in between the treads.

1916 – Tankard of implements

This tankard (pewter I think) sits on our worktop with all the kitchen implements that are not wooden…well not all, there are some chopsticks (made from ancient coconut wood I think) that have worked their way into this. I think the tankard was given to me by my sister for being an usher at her wedding? So long ago that I have forgotten. No doubt I will get told off if my memory has failed me (as usual).

1915 – Spelling

These days I drink mostly soy milk rather than cows milk – however we sometimes have trouble buying soy milk that doesn’t have added sugar or flavours. This is one of the brands that is OK. I made a couple of mistakes in the lettering on this one – I ran out of space on the dark side and forgot one letter on the other! Its SoyFresh not SoyFesh or SoyFreh!
