With this sketch I was getting in my morning greens and testing out my limited (mini) palette of colours. It’s definitely OK with the greens – in my next post I will try a scene with more blues and greys, which may be harder.

My wife was given a little tin box to put watercolours in and seeing it, I couldn’t resist buying one myself. I have put a basic range of 6 colours in half-pans in it (though I might split some of these into two quarter pans), including some relatively new colours that I don’t use often. It’s so small (just 6x5cm) that it fits in my roll up pencil case.

This sketch was done at the Spotlight Blackbox Theater, in Ayala Malls Circuit, where we went to watch a play called “Miranda & Yolanda”. According to some blurb the play (in two parts) explores “the insidious ways power corrupts people”. The first part (Miranda) was in English so no interpreting was needed. In the second part my wife kindly whispered in my ear to explain what was going on (to my shame my Tagalog is still hopeless). I sketched this while we were waiting for the play to start.

Here is another sketch of my mum done while we were having a video chat. The day I sketched this she was sadly very confused and distressed about where she was and what was going on around her. Thankfully the day I am posting this she seems a bit more back to normal.

This painting was done after a fairly long gap between sketches – although the gap was filled with finishing off other partly done drawings. This is our cat sitting in his favourite spot in the evening. I have drawn him multiple times, but in this attempt I tried to keep the colours really simple and faded those in the background to make him stand out.

I did this sketch on my way back from the life drawing session with Kyusi Sunday Sketchers, when I stopped to fill up with petrol. The queue was quite long and of course the cost has doubled since the start of this stupid, illegal and disastrous war with Iran.

Here is the second batch of sketches I did with Kyusi Sunday Sketchers a few weeks ago. These are of the second model who’s name was Luke. As before each pose was for 3-8 minutes – plus a one minute pose done using my non-dominant hand. I used a mixture of ink and watercolour pencils.

Here is the first batch of life drawings I did with Kyusi Sunday Sketchers a few weeks ago. These are of the first model who’s name was Will. He used a bow and arrow as a prop, but most of the time I ignored it in my sketches. Each pose was for 3-8 minutes – plus a one minute pose done using your non-dominant hand (left for me). I used a mixture of ink and watercolour pencils.

On this day I went to St. Luke’s Medical Center BGC for an eye test and consultation (so that eventually I could get a glaucoma test…there is history of it in my family). On my way home I walked through Bonifacio High Street and stopped at Seattle’s Best for a coffee. Instead of sketching the view out the window I sketched what I bought…there were a lot of ingredients in that cookie but it was delicious!
