118-3458 – Petrol queue

I did this sketch on my way back from the life drawing session with Kyusi Sunday Sketchers, when I stopped to fill up with petrol. The queue was quite long and of course the cost has doubled since the start of this stupid, illegal and disastrous war with Iran.

118-3452-7 – Kyusi Sunday Sketchers

3 mins

Here is the second batch of sketches I did with Kyusi Sunday Sketchers a few weeks ago. These are of the second model who’s name was Luke. As before each pose was for 3-8 minutes – plus a one minute pose done using my non-dominant hand. I used a mixture of ink and watercolour pencils.

118-3446-51 – Kyusi Sunday Sketchers

3 mins

Here is the first batch of life drawings I did with Kyusi Sunday Sketchers a few weeks ago. These are of the first model who’s name was Will. He used a bow and arrow as a prop, but most of the time I ignored it in my sketches. Each pose was for 3-8 minutes – plus a one minute pose done using your non-dominant hand (left for me). I used a mixture of ink and watercolour pencils.

118-3445 – Chocolate chip cranberry almond cookie

On this day I went to St. Luke’s Medical Center BGC for an eye test and consultation (so that eventually I could get a glaucoma test…there is history of it in my family). On my way home I walked through Bonifacio High Street and stopped at Seattle’s Best for a coffee. Instead of sketching the view out the window I sketched what I bought…there were a lot of ingredients in that cookie but it was delicious!

118-3443 – Art by Eric

I sketched this as I chatted to my mum on the phone. This was a piece of artwork that we bought in the Alitaptap artists community (see sketches No.116-3411-12). Eric (Angelo Aquino) guided us around and to thank him we bought this – it’s a decorated spray can – with a fish. I think Eric used to be a fisherman in Iloilo.

118-3442 – Killing plants

This was my gardening effort the day I sketched this. I have been trying to rescue/propagate spider plants…which should be easy? In this sketch I was also trying out a bigger wash on this new paper – and as I thought it buckles and lifts off too easily so layers of watercolour don’t come so naturally.

118-3441 – New ink on new paper

This is the ink I got from my daughters for my birthday. It’s Sailor Seiboku, a lovely turquoise blue, water resistant and, so far, has shown no sign of blocking my preppy pen. The paper is from a 160gsm Mixed Media pad from Artists Loft – which I bought in Canada last year. So far it is pretty good – smooth to draw on, doesn’t pill too much and it can take quite a lot working. It does buckle a bit (understandable) and struggles with watercolour layers, but otherwise is good.

118-3440 – Three bottles of water

My brother-in-law gave us some water when were visiting memorial park in the heat of the day on Saturday 4 April. That was very generous of course…but it does concern me that there is too much plastic waste around and so prefer to use a refillable bottle.
