Joined the Philippines Urban Sketchers yesterday (though I only saw a couple of fellow sketchers and missed the gathering at the end) at the Fête de la Musique. Here is a quick charcoal drawing I did of people waiting for the first act (Reese Lansangan)…by the time I finished she came on stage so she appears at the left edge.

Thanks. I’m not consciously composing the drawings, but of course I do add in and leave out things to change the way it sits on the page. So the organisation of space just sort of happens!
The not consciously composing is, I suspect, the best sort of composing that artists do. You’re doing the composing. You just don’t know you’re doing it. Automatic pilot. And the results are visually marvelous, varied and complex. Nobody could plan that kind of complexity consciously.
I agree. I’m sure it’s the same for you. The best compositions are the ones that just come naturally!
