I haven’t posted sketch number 1982 yet as it’s not finished, but I thought I would get on and post the next one. This was done on a visit we made to Kew Gardens…finally sketching outside in the UK! This statue is by Hamo Thornycroft (what a fantastic name) and the pedestal was designed by Lutyens. It depicts a peasant farmer as an heroic figure – its near the “Grass Garden”, so that seems appropriate. It was freezing cold sketching this, even though I hurried – my fingers were numb afterwards.

Nice sketch! Here in NY it is still too cold to sketch outdoors. I did a double take when you wrote Kew Gardens. It is a train stop on the way into Manhattan on the Long Island Railroad.

Haha. Yeah Kew Gardens London! It’s too cold outdoors (for me) here. But I like to sketch outside a lot
