42-1356 – Kite surfers

My landlady warned me that the weather was going to change on Saturday afternoon. But still I went for a walk to the beach. Wow it was windy – sand got in everything including my paints. These two guys didn’t seem to care though – several times they were lifted up into the air on their kites.

42-1354 – Bougainvillea and palm

This is my first sketch in my new sketchbook – lovely heavy paper, but as always it will take a little time to get used to the change. On Fridays we finish work at 4pm and it only takes me 20 minutes to get home, so I jumped at the chance to sketch this view from my apartment. Even so, the light was fading fast as I finished.

41-1353 – Stuffed

The peppers here are so huge (no doubt full of chemicals and not the slightest bit organic) that the obvious thing to cook with them is to suff them. These two were leftovers…I haven’t got into the habit of cooking for one, and I made enough to last several days!

1352 – Fruit from above

Here is a little sketch I did one morning (sticking to my habit of sketching before work while I still have jet lag) of my fruit bowl. Somehow my sketch made it look like I was hovering above the fruit – hence the title. I beefed up the colour with some scribbles of watercolour pencils…I do like the way I can get that dense layered look with them.

41-1351 – A plant I didn’t see before

So here I am back in Turks and Caicos (not to have a holiday on the beach but to work), staying in a place I have stayed before. One of the (very) few advantages of jet lag is that I am up early and have time to sketch before I go to work. This one was done sitting on my veranda in the morning while having coffee. I didn’t see this plant last time I was here…perhaps I wasn’t looking!

1330 – Up up and away

Here is my last sketch in Turks and Caicos for a while – at the airport of course. In the background behind people queuing up for their flight is a souvenir shop selling lots of knick-knacks …hope you can spot the fish.

41-1329 – Beer before flying, at the Cockpit

My trip to Grand Turk was short but sweet – just two nights. This sketch was done on my way back to Providenciales. There is a bar at the airport called ‘The Cockpit’ and I had a coffee while waiting. This group of people decided to have a few beers while waiting….maybe they are nervous flyers…I can understand that, given the tiny weeny planes that fly between islands in TCI.
