I realised the other day, that I haven’t sketched these sandals…even though I tend to sketch all the new shoes we get these days. Somehow I didn’t get the proportions of these right…the one on the right looks like a high heel sandal! Oh well, never mind.

After lots of #UrbanSketches here is one of something more simple – some new shoes. I bought these #Birkenstock shoes in Makati after sketching at the Dia del Libro event on 20th April in Ayala Triangle Gardens. I have been suffering from plantar fasciitis again (which affects my foot arches), and wearing these sandals (plus a compression sock at night) seems to fix the problem.

So, after a lot of #UrbanSketches this post goes back to an evening sketch of something around the home. I bought this pair of flip-flops (what people call slippers here) in Bantayan Island, over the New Year, when our luggage didn’t arrive with us. They were just the first pair I saw in the Hyper-Mart and they have super knobbly soles.

My favourite subjects for an evening sketch after working (and struggling to think of something to draw) are fruit, something from the pantry or shoes. I’ve no doubt sketched this pair of shoes before. They are rather tired old Hush Puppies – the rubber sole fell apart a while back (rubber just disintegrates in this humid climate, after a while), but a handy guy at the market stitched a brand new sole onto them.

Sticking with my subject of sketching shoes, these #Converse (which are platform!) were a Christmas present for our youngest daughter. They look nice and fresh (I hope), rather than a bit worn out, as I sketched these before she’s had a chance to wear them!

Having done lots of #UrbanSketching over the holidays I am now back to sketching stuff around the house. These crocs belong to our eldest daughter…I cleaned them for her before I sketched them!

The next #UskQuezonCity #Sketchtober2023 prompt (for day 7) was ‘shoe”. I’m pretty sure I’ve sketched these trainers (which belong to my wife) before, but sketching the same thing over and over is getting to be a (good?) habit of mine! I’ve certainly learnt a lot through repetition.

My wife bought another pair of shoes for her graduation….hoping that they would be more comfortable than teetering about in a pair borrowed from our daughter. She made it through the ceremony but hobbled back to the car afterwards. Why people wear high heels, especially with pointy toes, I don’t know.

For a change this evening I am sketching someone else’s shoes – they belong to our youngest daughter. My wife will be wearing these to her masters graduation later this month.
