Day 157 – Working at night
I only had time to paint just before bedtime today – luckily my favourite subjects were both still hard at work (offspring No.1 and my wife). This is done in ink, watercolour, watercolour pencils and graphite.
Day 154 – 6750 Ayala from Park Cafe
Off to Makati today to pick up my daughter from her trip ‘Malling’, so I went early to do a sketch – this is done in watercolour, ink and watercolour pencils, sitting outside at the UCC Park Cafe next to the Glorietta mall. I struggled with the rolled up umbrella, but got it in the end I hope.
Day 152 – Openings in perspective
I decided to do a drawing at home again today – this is a scene I’ve done several times, but never tire of reworking and seeing differently. This was done in watercolour, water-soluble ink, watercolour pencils and graphite.
Day 150 – White House
Today on the way back from the supermarket this white house with a red roof (and the blue plastic hoarding) stood out brightly against the dull but menacing tower blocks behind and I just had to stop and sketch. This was done in watercolour, ink and soluble graphite.
Day 149 – Play equipment La Mesa Eco-Park
Here is the sketch that I gave up on yesterday, because it started to rain heavily. I finished it off at home. The yellow play equipment really stood out against a dark background – and was not easy to draw. This was done in watercolour pencils, watercolour, ink and pencil.
Day 144 – Signs at Glorietta
Here is the quick sketch I did today from where I had lunch looking out and up to the shoppers (on the next level) in Glorietta mall. It makes sense to me as I was there, but maybe parts look a little abstracted? This was done in ink, watercolour, watercolour pencils, pencil and oil pastels.
Day 138 – Buddha head table decor
Today I painted a collection of table decor in our common clubhouse – the Buddha head is cast metal, the green wooden stand had a candle at the top (cut off in the drawing) and the orchids were plastic! I used my current favourite technique – water soluble ink lines first, then watercolour painting (which blends with the ink and loosens the hard lines), then touches of watercolour pencil, soluble graphite pencil and black ink wash to finish off.
Day 134 – Looking up
Here is the quick sketch I did today (in watercolour, Uni PIN pen and watercolour pencils) – just lounging on my bed! In the sketchbook the colours appear less garish and flatter…but the scan is close enough.
