Here is the second video and collage I put together from the scans I made from the first of my old sketchbooks. These sketches were done in the UK and are mostly black and white, done in ink or charcoal.

I didn’t have time to sketch today, so here is another one from my archives. Many of my older sketches are done in pencil and/or pastel. I think this one was done on a trip to the countryside with the students I was teaching. I love to sketch in ink these days, but a good pencil can be really effective.

Here is another one from the archives – a sketch of a temple entrance in Phnom Penh. This was done in a combination of pencil, ink and watercolour pencils.
Aug-1993

Here is another one from my archives. This sketch of two of my friends was done when we were in Pembrokeshire on a little holiday, staying in a Youth Hostel. I’ve always struggled sketching faces – Karen (on the right turned out okay), but my attempt at sketching Emma’s face, on the left, was a bit of a disaster.

I haven’t been able to sketch today, but here is one from the past, done in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I think this was done near where I lived.
Sun-8-Aug-1993

As I didn’t have time to sketch today (too busy cooking then over-eating), I am posting one of my old pencil sketches from back in December 1991. This was done at my parents house in the UK, the essential elements being the TV, a wood fire burning and a Christmas tree.
Dec-1991

I did do a new sketch today but my scanner is misbehaving so instead, here is one from my stock of hundreds of old sketches. This one is of the sluice gate below Pultney Bridge in Bath again. I posted a similar sketch before…my office was really nearby so it was a handy spot to sketch at lunch time.

Here is another early sketch from when I lived in Bath. I still remember doing this (despite it being done 30 years ago). I sat on a bench on my way home from work and it was really cold – even though I was wearing fingerless gloves. I used to live up the hill to the right and had to cross the river (that’s a river in the foreground) and go under the railway viaduct. I still think of this as my first “urban sketch”…though I am sure I did others before this.
28-March-1992

I have been scanning some of my old sketchbooks. I started sketching regularly (but not every day like I do now) in an A5 sketchbook in 1991 when I lived in the UK and after I went to a summer art school. This one was done in Bath at the sluice gate and wier under Pultney Bridge.
