112 – Newsagent and van at traffic lights

Here is another early sketch from when I lived in Bath. I still remember doing this (despite it being done 30 years ago). I sat on a bench on my way home from work and it was really cold – even though I was wearing fingerless gloves. I used to live up the hill to the right and had to cross the river (that’s a river in the foreground) and go under the railway viaduct. I still think of this as my first “urban sketch”…though I am sure I did others before this.

Bayon, Angkor, Cambodia

My old students in Cambodia asked for some drawings of the Bayon to print on a T-shirt, so that got me looking through my old sketchbooks. Here are the Bayon drawings I found.

I was lucky enough to spend 7 years living and working in Cambodia. For holidays I used to travel up to Siem Reap and spend a whole week just hanging about the temples and drawing. My drawings were bolder and I used less ink back then…inspiration for changing for what I do now. I’ll be posting a few more from Cambodia and other times in batches….

#525 – Tintin

So after a few days of taking it easy and posting older drawings, I am back to sketching around my home. Here is one of our cat Tintin (she was named by the rescue centre we got her from…I suppose because of her ginger colouring). For a change I used pencil and pastel for this one – no ink and no watercolour!
