116-3417 – Bread maker troubles

The day I did this sketch I had made pizza in the evening – making the dough in our ancient bread maker, which is failing fast. During the part where it kneads the dough with a paddle it constantly jumps up and down with the bucket popping up and out. I have to jamb spoons down the side to try and stop it…but I have had to try bigger and bigger spoons!

109-3256 – Drip drip drip

When I sketched this water was leaking into our kitchen cupboards from the apartment above! I had to empty the cupboard, including these kitchen tissue rolls, to stop things getting ruined. Drawing things inside plastic bags is a difficult subject (though @tmlnkv on instagram is brilliant at it), but I did my best.

107-3187 – Just a bowl

Here is an evening sketch of whatever I saw in front of me. I splashed on the watercolour first, then added some detail with my trusty Uni-ball Micro which draws on anything. There is supposed to be a banana and orange peel in the bowl, but the colours got a bit muddied.

107-3182 – Spag spoon

Are you stuck for things to draw (especially when it’s raining endlessly)? My choice was to draw this spot (or label) that we bought a while ago…not sure if I got the reflective metal finish that well.

101-3058 – Coconut spoons

Here are some random objects from our kitchen – a spoon and a spatular made from coconut wood which has a beautiful distinctive pattern and is quite hard wearing. Utensils like this are usually made from trees that are no longer producing fruit.

79-2497 – Spicy chutney

For this sketch I switched to the #Inktober2023 prompt for Day 12 of ‘spicey’ (I guess that is an American spelling), instead of the #Sketchtober2023 prompt of ‘tree’ – seeing that I wasn’t out and about. The day before I drew this, I had made these two jars of chutney using overripe bananas and their skins (along with lots of spices, chillies and some onion). I’d read this article (maybe in the Guardian) about zero waste and thought I would give it a try. It’s yummy!

78-2488 – Cookware

I still have a few sketches to post from the #UskQuezonCity event on the weekend but to for a change of pace this one goes back to my (failing) efforts to keep up with the #Sketchtober2023 prompts (Day 8). This is just a stack of our various cooking pans – a good opportunity to practice sketching shiny steel!
