Here is another sketch from our holiday in Camiguin that has been waiting for me to finish it. This was done at a little cafe where we had coffee on our first full day.

72-2350 – Off to Camiguin
The morning after the debut of my grand-niece (not sure if that is the right term actually – the daughter of my niece anyway) we headed off to the airport for our little holiday in Camiguin Island. When I say morning I mean really early (our flight was at 03:34am to we were at the airport a couple of hours before that). Naturally even though it was still the middle of the night for me, I had to do an airport sketch!

Here is a sketch that I did while chatting to my sketching friend @TheArtofBeingPresent – and that has been languishing in my sketchbook partly completed, for weeks. I think I have sketched this car before, but I still enjoyed trying to capture the reflections and shadows.

71-2330 – Brunch at Beiruti Bites
Beiruti bites is a little restaurant in Market Market! mall – they sell nice felafel sandwiches. Not quite as nice as the genuine ones from Beirut, but still good. The decor inside is quite eclectic and cheerful – ideal for a quick sketch while we waited for our meal. I added the colour to this at home from a photo – after all it is fast food.

I haven’t sketched General Tapioca (our cat) for a while, so I took the opportunity when he settled down to sleep on the arm of our sofa. He is growing fast and will soon be the same size as his brother Captain Haddock.

71-2321 – Box of tools
We occasionally try to tidy up our little apartment (we are not very good at it) and on the weekend I sorted out all the tools we had in various places, and put them in this plastic box. I think the box used to contain ‘spartyghetti’….a party sized box of spaghetti.

71-2318 – Moussaka with tofu topping
These are all the ingredients I put in our dinner last night (there are some out of sight too). It might seem like that’s a lot but it was faster to prepare it than it was to sketch it all. The dish has a layer of grilled eggplants (aubergine), a sauce of tomatoes, onions, carrots and zucchini and a topping made with tofu puréed with soy sauce, lemon juice, mustard, and almonds. We served it with garlic bread…yummy!

70-2304 – Family at Starbucks
Here is a sketch from the weekend, done when we were out doing some Christmas shopping. No, we are not shopping early for Christmas 2023, but are shopping very late (for family here in the Philippines), for last Christmas! I did this sketch very quickly while we had a coffee break and then added the watercolour at home.

70-2292 – Abstract car maintenance
Here is a sketch I started quite some time ago and finished just yesterday. I took our car in for its regular maintenance last week and had a few moments to sit in their lounge and sketch this. When I painted it, it turned out quite abstract – there is a chair in the foreground, reflected in a window, behind which you can see the back of a big truck.
