We bought this 6 litre bottle of water to use at our vigil at the memorial park and I couldn’t resist sketching it as the pattern and reflections looked so interesting. The prompt for Day 19 of #Inktober2024 was “ridge” and I noticed that the image on the label is of a mountain with a ridge line…so that’s close enough for me!
This sketch was done in the morning after our night at the memorial park. The prompt for Day 18 of #Inktober2024 was “drive” so this seemed an appropriate subject. I had planned to do more to this sketch (like paint in the greenery)…but in the end thought it was finished enough!
This sketch was done late at night while we were at the memorial park for undas (a holiday in the Philippines to commemorate a combination of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, honouring the souls of the departed). Undas is derived from the Spanish word “honras” meaning “honours”. We stayed at the memorial park all night. I am not proud of it, but I fell asleep quite quickly – and I always feel pretty grungy after a night sleeping under the stars. “Grungy” also happens to be the prompt for Day 16 of #Inktober2024.
Here is my sketch for Day 14 of #Inktober2024, following the prompt of “roam”. I am going to be travelling for work soon, so I am making sure I have my various dongles and headphones ready. I keep them in this pencil case made from waste plastic. My kit includes this really useful little widget which lets me connect my headphones to the entertainment system on the plane.
To follow the Day 13 prompt for #Inktober2024, I went outside to see if I could find a #horizon to sketch. Unfortunately as we are surrounded by buildings, I couldn’t see one and instead sketched one of the high rise buildings just outside where we live. At least I managed to include a small patch of sky!
Here is my sketch for Day 12 of #Inktober2024, following the prompt of “remote”. It’s the 30th today…so you might notice that I am weeks behind! We recently bought a “fire stick” to connect to more streaming services, so along with one for the TV and one for a sound bar, we now have three. It doesn’t take much for me to pick up the wrong one and wonder why nothing happens when I press the button.
Here is my sketch for Day 11 of #Inktober2024, following the prompt of “snacks”. For a long time we have been weeding out the Pansit-Pansitan (also known as Ulasiman-bato, Peperomia pellucida or Pepper elder) from the plant pots on our balcony and throwing it away. Only recently did we realise that it’s edible and is supposed to have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties (along with a host of other benefits). I picked this to add to an omelette I had at lunch time.
Here is my sketch for Day 10 of #Inktober2024. According to Wikipedia digital nomads are “people who travel freely while working remotely using technology and the internet”. Personally I find the idea overrated and associated with tiresome Instagram photos. Anyway the concept meant I could sketch my battered iPad, phone and AirPods to follow the “nomadic” prompt!
Here is my sketch for Day 8 of #Inktober2024 following the “Hike” prompt. I sketched these hiking shoes back in 2021 (see sketch No. 1702) – when I hadn’t worn them much. Now they are a bit tired out and need some repair work done.
This was done in a new sketchbook with some random paper for the first and last pages. Most of this sketchbook is made from Daler-Rowney Aquafine 300gsm, but as I seemed to be short of my usual 10 A4 sheets (that makes the right thickness of an A5 sketchbook for me), I added in a sheet or two from an ancient pad of “Langton” paper (also made by Daler-Rowney). It takes the paint rather differently – I like it. The pad is something leftover from my teenage years!
