94-2863 – Blue passport stupidity

The prompt for Day 7 of #Inktober2024 “Passport”. This is one of my first passports (issued in 1991) – after that I think all my passports were that EU burgundy colour. During Brexit going back to a blue/black coloured passport was cited as a way to reclaim sovereignty and tradition…but I think this was just a silly superficial distraction from the real impact that leaving the EU would have. Most economists now believe that Brexit has been disastrous for the UK.

94-2862 – Trekking gear (Day 6)

The prompt for Day 6 of #Inktober2024 was “Trek”, so I decided to sketch some of the camping and trekking gear we bought a while back from #Decathlon. This is a little cooking pan which includes two bowls (with plastic cutlery) that nestle nicely inside, making it more compact for storage. The handle also splits and folds back to hold the lid in place.

94-2858 – Exotic

Here is my sketch for day 4 of the #Inktober2024 prompts. As with most things in our house I have sketched this before before (see sketch No. 1410 done in 2020). Our daughter brought this mask back from South Africa for us. A quick search using Google Lens (a very clever feature), tells me it was probably made in Swaziland.

94-2856 – Discover-explore

Here is version four of the “same subject different ways” challenge with @koosjekoene – this time limiting my palette to two colours only, picking out the leaf green of the teapot and the cobalt blue of the cup. I thought I could combine this sketch with the #Inktober2024 prompt for day 2, which is “discover”, as following the #DrawTipTuesday challenge is a #CreativeExploration for me. I added some highlights with a #PoscaPen and some shadows with my trusty #UniballEye pen.

94-2855 – Old faithful (backpack)

Here I go again trying to follow the #Inktober2024 prompts…somehow I think I will miss days and not finish like last year (I can’t believe it’s come around so quickly again …that’s an old age think I guess). I still have some older sketches I haven’t posted…but I wanted to post this one out of order just to show I am keeping up with the prompts! Anyway this backpack made by #MacPac is older than my children – but still does a great job…built to last!

80-2539 – Audio equipment

I am all out of order with posting my sketches. Plus I am still doing sketches following the from #Sketchtober2023! Anyway here is one following the prompt of “Audio equipment” for Day 30. These are my daughters headphones – Anker brand I think.

79-2521 – Step 1 and 2

I am going to be doing a little workshop on how to make and bind a simple hardbound sketchbook, with #UskQuezonCity, next month. As part of this I am doing a few basic sketches of the steps in the process – later I will put these together with some text, to make a handout. Unusually for me, I sketched from a photo. This is good opportunity for me to practice drawing hands (which usually come out looking like a bunch of sausages)…plus I can count this as Day 24 of #Sketchtober2023 following the prompt of ‘body part’ (yes, I still haven’t finished that, even though it’s nearly December!).

79-2506 – Utility pole outside Wheatberry

This sketch (that has been waiting in my sketchbook for a while, for me to finish it) was done when we made a pit-stop at the Wheatberry Cafe before going home, after paying our respects at the wake of a friend. Making such a stop is a Filipino superstition called “Pagpag” – the idea being it would confuse any spirits who are trying to make their way home with you. It was also an opportunity for a treat (a mocha frost with lots of cream) and a cheese roll, also loaded with sugar. You can’t eat healthily all the time. In moderation a sugar overload is fine?
