In Brighton we stayed in a Travelodge hotel – very spacious, clean and comfortable. Waking up early (still dealing with jet lag) I drew this view out of the window as soon as it got light.

Here is the view from my hotel window in Hanoi. The strange tower is a tall thin “shop house” – obviously built on a very small plot of land with a maximum number of floors.

I was lucky enough to have a bit of free time yesterday in Hanoi and was planning to go out and do some sketching…but then it started raining. So while I was waiting it out I drew this view out the window.

This is the view from my hotel window – painted on my first day in Hanoi. As often seems to be the case my hotel looks onto a jumble of roofs and odd little extensions.

On Friday last week I arrived back in Hanoi after my field trip up north. Here is the view from my new hotel room as the sun was setting. There is so much going on out there I decided to make it simple and quick.

I didn’t have much time to sketch while making a field trip to northern Vietnam – but here is one I did one evening in my hotel. A while ago my sister had sarcastically comented that as I was travelling again, she’d be seeing endless sketches of lamps in hotel rooms…so here you go!

I am travelling for work again – this time to the north of Vietnam. After a long ride from Hanoi my colleagues and I stayed at the Bang Giang Hotel in Cao Bang. This was the spectacular view from my hotel room. I had the honour of visiting Hmong villages in the beautiful forested mountains in the following days.

Yesterday we went for a short walk with my parents, fed the ducks and had a nice lunch at the Mill Hotel in Sudbury. Nice food and my first British pint since I’ve been here. While we waited for the food I drew this view out the window. The sketch of my father came out OK, but the one of my mother didn’t turn out too well.
