Here is one of my sketches done before going to work – not much colour in this one! As is my habit at the moment I was listening to a Dhamma talk as I drew this. One phrase that struck me was “there is not much time, so we must go slowly” – the idea being that we should savour every moment, instead of rushing through life.

I was thinking of my mum while I was sketching this (and listening to a Dhamma talk which is getting to be a habit) – she likes celery when its fresh and crispy but hates it when it’s cooked. Unfortunately this bunch from my fridge is a bit limp, so cooking it is the only option.

The name of a movie I fell asleep in – as well as a sketch done while waiting for my laundry to finish. The machines out back of my apartment are all broken so my landlord kindly drove me to another one they own…which also has machines held together with packing tape. Later when my clothes were on the line a storm struck….so I got drenched getting them in and had to drape them around the house to dry off,

Some sketches just don’t work out how you expect them to. After a run of sketches that I’ve been satisfied with, I was due for one like this – somehow this bag of cheese doesn’t look like a bag at all! Cheese here is pre-grated and plastic-like – I long for British extra mature cheddar!

I did this sketch on Friday morning before work, whilst listening to a Dhamma Talk podcast by Ajahn Brahmali – one of his points is that you make a difficult task harder by thinking about it too much – it’s better to just get on with it and then you find that it’s actually easy. This philosophy is of great use in my work!

I have a backlog of drawings to share, so here is another one for the #Pantryartproject – these eggs come in a pink polystyrene box…nasty stuff (I much prefer when they come in recycled cardboard)…but interesting to sketch. I have heard that the government is banning polystyrene here in TCI … at last!

Here is another sketch for the #Pantryartproject … doing this it occurred to me that pantry is not a word that I would use these days…somehow it seems a bit antiquated to me. Technically a pantry is a small room or closet where you keep food, dishes and utensils. I definitely don’t have one of those, but I guess a cupboard is the same.

The other day I found out about the #pantryartproject from @koosjekoene – apararently @patrice_sketches is donating to her local food pantry for every participating artist — the idea being to draw something from your pantry every day in January. I am a bit late to join, but it seems like a good idea and certainly saves me having to think of what I might draw each day. This is my first effort.

Here is another view in the new apartment I am staying in. Apart from the wall, most things are grey or black…so I started this as a black and white sketch and only thought to add a few dashes of colour later.
