My landlord described these concrete statues (there are several dotted around) as his guardians…of safety against hurricanes? I’m not sure if this sketch is decipherable and the statue is too heavy to turn round (to sketch the head/face)…can you tell what it is?

Sitting outside my front door, this is the view I have down to the swimming pool. When I rented this place the photos fooled me into thinking I could do laps. The fact is the pool is only about 1 stroke long! Still, I will have a dip to cool off sometime.

My new apartment living room combines, dining, living, kitchen, my workplace in the evenings and utility – very efficient! I’m grateful for my landlady providing a (huge) washer and tumble drier….though it does feel a bit odd having all this in one one room.

After a long first day back at work and settling in to a new Airbnb apartment I’m just sketching what’s in front of me. My new place is full of quirky furniture and ornaments, so there is lots of sketching material!

I’ve been offline for a long while, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been sketching. This is one of my last sketches in Turks and Caicos – done at the airport as I was leaving. In this one my pen was misbehaving, putting way too much ink on the paper – hence the blacker look!

Here is another fruit drawing. I bought these bananas while they were pretty green… someone convinced me a while ago that buying them green is a good idea because they ripen overnight. It turns out to be true…I’ve eaten them all already!

No prizes for guessing what I was doing the other evening…as well as sketching of course. Frankly there isn’t much to do in the evenings here (going out is super expensive)…and I have been catching up (or you could saying bingeing) on some TV shows I have been meaning to watch. Breaking Bad is the one at the moment.

Before coming to TCI this time around I bought some galoshes…or what the packet says are “stylish rainshoe covers”. Stylish they are not – I look like an idiot with black plastic bags on my feet. However they did work when it rained heavily the other day and I had to almost wade into work – the paths and roads round here flood very quickly. Crossing the road is like fording a river. I also wore my big green raincoat…and it was so sweaty I think I got wetter than I would have if I’d walked in the rain. So that was my trip to and from work last Wednesday!
