107-3228 – Evening light

My wife cooked on this particular evening and even she would agree that’s a bit rare these days – not that I mind as I enjoy cooking. Anyway I took advantage and sketched the living room for the umpteenth time. I used a limited palette of pink, lemon yellow, raw sienna, and carbazole violet…that’s limited for me!

107-3217 – Ironing and Voyager

I spend some evenings doing the ironing – when I do, I have Star Trek on in the background (either Voyager or Strange New Worlds at the moment). I find the stories simple, often daft, but harmless and certainly not requiring too much attention…that means I can sketch afterwards too.

107-3208 – Cat looking pissed off at me

General Tapioca often looks pissed off with me (probably for disturbing and petting him) – or if not that – startled or terrified. He does have rare moment of friendliness, where he goes a bit mad purring and rubbing around your legs. You might notice a second sketch overlapping with this …because of course he didn’t stay still when I drew him!

107-3207 – End of working day

As I drew this it was the end of my working day. It was dusk – very briefly. There was a bird singing it’s heart out and I could still hear it above the roar of the traffic. The cats were getting antsy because it was their dinner time. But I was enjoying the riot of plants on our balcony. The one with love heart shaped leaves is going mad. Below our balcony I could hear the neighbours taking out their trash (and accidentally smashing a glass bottle). My tea was waiting for me.

107-3193 – What is on the coffee table

My habit is to just sketch what is in front of me, so here is what happened to be on our coffee table one evening. I read this series of books (the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini) years ago but my wife has been enjoying them recently. Paolini started writing the first book in the series (Eragon), when he was 15!

106-3174 – Left-over dinner

Sometimes I feel a bit stuck for subjects and motivation for sketching – so my solution is often to turn to the #DrawTipTuesday advice of @KoosjeKoene, which is alway a good source of ideas and encouragement. This sketch is of some baked beans I made, plus a left-over baked potato.

103-3116 – Sketchbook production

I missed several days of sketching because I was busy making new sketchbooks, in preparation for some travel. This sketch is of two heavy mortar and pestles we have, that frankly only get used to press my sketchbook covers! One came from our time in Cambodia…I have no idea what stone it is made from. The other is a marble one from Romblon.
