82-2586 – Just one more

After #CCPPasinaya2024 last weekend, a group of us went to Harbour Square to do just one more sketch before heading to Quezon City to help put up the Fifth Anniversary Exhibition of #UskQuezonCity. I was joined by my sketching friends @theartistpaul2020, @reuelgarzon and Edgardo Granada. Of course (after the usual awful traffic…you can always blame it on the traffic) we ended up arriving at the exhibition venue (the Presidential Car Museum) a bit late.

80-2538 – Escuela Taller garden

This is the second sketch I did last Wednesday with #UskManila after our #UrbanSketching demonstration talks with students from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning from Pamantasan Ng Lungsod Ng Maynila (the University of the City of Manila) and the CAUP Student Council. The Escuela Taller Foundation forms a beautiful courtyard with a garden in middle.

80-2537 – Manila City Hall

Last Wednesday sketchers from #UskManila were invited to give #UrbanSketching demonstration talks and join a #Sketchwalk with students from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning from Pamantasan Ng Lungsod Ng Maynila (the University of the City of Manila). The event took place at Escuela Taller de Filipinas Foundation, Inc., in Intramuros and was organised by PM CAUP Student Council. After my little talk we went up onto the old city walls and I found a shady spot to sketch this view. It was great fun joining an enthusiastic group of students and of course discovering another beautiful place I have never visited in Metro Manila – thank you for the invite!

80-2536 – Manuel and flags

Here is the second sketch I did after my little workshop on bookbinding with #UskQuezonCity last Sunday. We held the workshop at the Audio Visual room of @MuseoNiManuelQuezon, and in the back of the room was this bust of Manuel Quezon (the first president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines). I am always attracted to bright colours and contrasting tones when I look for something to sketch, so sketching this was a no-brainer! I am not sure which country’s flags these are (though the Philippines flag is the 5th from the right)…maybe someone will point that out for me.

80-2535 – On top of the city

I am jumping ahead a little with this post, done after my little workshop on bookbinding with #UskQuezonCity last Sunday. We held the workshop at the @MuseoNiManuelQuezon, which is a mausoleum/museum (which I didn’t even know existed) on the ground floor of the Quezon Memorial Shrine, containing the remains and memorabilia of Manuel Quezon, the first president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. I didn’t get a chance to look round the museum but we were lucky enough to be allowed to climb up to the top of the shrine, up the few hundred steps of a narrow spiral staircase in one of the columns of the shrine. The views were fantastic.

79-2510 – Favourite condiment

For this sketch (following the #Sketchtober2023 prompt for Day 29), just for a change I switched to using a combination of my ‘Monte Marte’ watercolour markers, ink and Posca pens. I’ve got to get me some more Posca pens – they are such fun to use. This is ‘Mother’s Recipe Lime Pickle’ – so delicious I can’t describe it…so I drew it.

79-2508 – Dinner tonight

Here is another #Sketchtober2023 effort following the prompt of ‘meal’ for Day 18. Beiruti Bites (a fast food place specialising in Shawarma) is a good choice for a vegetarian meal – mine was a “challenger” size falafel sandwich. I struggled to sketch the crumpled up tin foil for this one (it kind of ended up looking like a rock?) – that was the second challenge!

79-2502 – Rise

This sketch (done at the local mall, Market Market!), was following the prompt for Day 13 from #Inktober2023. There were a lot of people moving quickly up and down these escalators, but in the end I just a few in as vague outlines. I drew this last week, while having a felafel sandwich for lunch at ‘Beruiti Bites’ – then I added the colour at home.
