Here is another sketch inspired by a #DrawTipTuesday video of @koosjekoene – who suggested drawing your hands in various positions. I’ve always struggled drawing hands and this effort shows that. My fingers look like sausages and the colours came out far too orange! I also happened to eat (vegetarian) sausages the night I drew this, so it seemed like an appropriate title!

This is my last sketch for #Inktober2024….only one month late in finishing! The prompt for Day 30 (I have already posted for Day 31) was “violin” and this was the closest I could get. This little guitar is actually a guitalele – which is a cross between a classical guitar and a tenor or baritone ukulele. I sketched this in blobs of colour first and then let it dry while I was cooking, later adding some ink lines, posca pen lines and extra colour.

The subject for Day 29 of #Inktober2024 was“navigator”, so I did some word association again and came up with sailor….and then thought of my Sailor pen and ink. The pen is my favourite – it’s a #SailorFude with a bent nib…never blocks up, and draws lovely flowing lines.

The #Inktober2024 prompt for Day 26 was #camera, so I fished out this ancient Canon Powershot camera we still have. The resolution is 4 mega pixels which at the time we got it, was a lot! The iPhone 16 can take pics at 48 MP for comparison. I am not a great fan of unnecessary splashes and dribbles of colour in sketches, but I felt that this one needed some.

The only idea I came up with to follow the #Inktober2024 prompt for Day 25 of “scarecrow”, was to sketch this. A few Christmas’s ago we received a table decoration consisting of a vase with this decorative bunch of dried grass (my thinking was that this is straw and that is what, traditionally, scarecrows are stuffed with)…which these days is looking a little forlorn.

My approach to the #Inktober2024 subject for Day 24, was to do word association, starting with the prompt of ‘expedition’, leading to ‘journey’, ‘voyage’ and then ‘voyager!’. I very rarely sketch from the TV but the obvious thing for me was to sketch a few random scenes of some episodes of Star Trek Voyager that I was watching. I took a photo of the screen and worked on the drawing from my iPad, so that I could continue to half-watch while I sketched.

With this sketch I am going back to #Inktober2024 (even though it is mid-November!), following the prompt for Day 23 of “rust”. I have plenty of rusty tools around and decided to paint in a bolder splashy style, by slopping on the colour in blobs first, then adding lines using #Derwent watercolour pencils and ink.

Here is a sketch I did on the weekend when we went to the local market for our veggie shopping. I also got some shoes repaired and while we waited we found a little coffee shop called “Rararich Café”. I like to sketch complicated scenes like this – with overlapping layers to give a feeling of depth… starting from the signs hanging on the glass I was looking through, then the bike leaning on the railings, the van, tree and fence and eventually a building and tree in the background. I hope it worked!

Our cat, Captain Haddock, has decided that this old pizza box is his favourite spot at the moment and he spends all day camped out there, sleeping. Naturally every morning, when I get up (and several times during the day), I trip over the box. This sketch (very roughly) follows the prompt of “camp” for Day 22 of #Inktober2024.
