I did this sketch the day before I had some new (white) bookbinding glue delivered. After my last fuzzy sketch I decided to do this one with my TWSBI pen (which seems to be a little blocked with noodler’s black ink).

I missed several days of sketching because I was busy making new sketchbooks, in preparation for some travel. This sketch is of two heavy mortar and pestles we have, that frankly only get used to press my sketchbook covers! One came from our time in Cambodia…I have no idea what stone it is made from. The other is a marble one from Romblon.

I have been meaning to post these sketches ever since I conducted a small workshop (with #UskQuezonCity) on binding your own sketchbook, way back in December 2023! I have posted a few of these sketches before, but here are all of them along with notes on what you need and how to do it. I have been binding my own sketchbooks since 2019, motivated by the high cost of sketchbooks with good quality paper (and even a few expensive ones with poor quality paper!). I have learnt how to do this by following the videos of @SeaLemonDIY on YouTube. If you prefer video tutorials she has plenty of great ones.

Here is another of my sketches I prepared to make a handout, for the little workshop I will be doing, with #UskQuezonCity, on December 10 – on binding a simple hardbound sketchbook. I still need practice drawing hands (but I think these look less like sausages than my last one).

I am going to be doing a little workshop on how to make and bind a simple hardbound sketchbook, with #UskQuezonCity, next month. As part of this I am doing a few basic sketches of the steps in the process – later I will put these together with some text, to make a handout. Unusually for me, I sketched from a photo. This is good opportunity for me to practice drawing hands (which usually come out looking like a bunch of sausages)…plus I can count this as Day 24 of #Sketchtober2023 following the prompt of ‘body part’ (yes, I still haven’t finished that, even though it’s nearly December!).

I may be doing a little workshop on how to case bind a simple watercolour sketchbook in December with #UskQuezonCity (depending on whether enough fellow sketchers are interested). As part of my preparation I got together all the materials I usually use to make one. I might use this sketch to explain what is needed, during the workshop.

Here is a random sketch of some similar shaped things that happened to be around in our house – good still life practice. Two of these are the glue that I use to make my sketchbooks, one is sewing machine oil.
