Here is another sketch done while waiting for my dinner…you can easily guess what I ate. I rushed this a bit and as soon as I started I wondered why I had picked a scene with such tricky perspective!

#352 – Motorbikes outside Nét Huê
I couldn’t leave Hanoi without sketching a few motorbikes! This is a view outside the restaurant I ate at last night, while I was waiting for my meal. I added more detail after I’d eaten and then added the colour at home using a photo.

#351 – Saturdays kitchen
This and the next sketch are done at random restaurants in Hanoi. There are so many places to eat out that I’ve eaten (inexpensively) somewhere different every night. this one was a little Japanese place. What I manage to sketch depends on how quickly they bring the food!

#310 – Hap Chan
Yesterday I had a quick lunch with my wife who wanted to eat Chinese – I couldn’t resist doing an ink and watercolour drawing of the lamp shades. What I’ve drawn is actually a reflection in a big mirror.

#305 – Dar Bistro corner
I promised myself I’d eat and sketch at Dar Bistro and Books again before I left Beirut – so here it is. This time I ate Gnocchi in a tomato and parmesan sauce – delicious. In the foreground is one of their patio heaters – but it wasn’t needed that evening. I love the atmosphere in this place – they even played some of my favorite music!

#304 – Let’s Eat
Last night I ate at a little place called Let’s Eat. There wasn’t a soul there, but I had a nice lentil soup and some avocado and potato salad. The decor was mostly black and white, so there is only a little colour in my ink and watercolour sketch.

#301 – Chopsticks
Last night I ate at a restaurant called Chopsticks. There was virtually no-one on the second floor where I ate, so despite best intentions I had to draw an empty room. As part of a Chinese New Year promotion, I drew a card from a pack – and pulled out a rooster card, with the result that everything, including desert and a drink, was free! How lucky.

#298 – Bar in Dar books
Last night I ate out at a nice little place called Dar Bistro & Books. It has great veggie food and a nice warm, cosy and arty atmosphere. I managed to squeeze in this ink and watercolour sketch while I was waiting for my dish of couscous.

Day 190 – Old Spaghetti House
Back in Manila last Sunday (9th) we stopped at this place for lunch while doing our weekly shopping. Something went wrong with my perspective on this sketch (as usual in ink and watercolour) …but never mind.
