1116 – Red bride

Here is my last sketch from the QC Urban Sketchers sketch-walk at Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center last Sunday. This spot is popular with wedding and pre-nuptial photographers – we saw several brides dressed in traditional white and this one in red.

1115 – Sketcher and bridge

Here is my second sketch from the Kyusi Urban Sketchers sketch-walk at Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center last Sunday. I guess the lagoon fills up a bit later in the rainy season…at the moment the bridge is over dry land.

1114 – Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife

Last Sunday my wife and I joined the QC urban sketchers (#UskKyusi) at Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center – a huge zoological and botanical garden in the middle of Metro Manila. I never knew it existed! It’s named after Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. whose assassination in 1983 led to the People Power Revolution in 1986 and the overthrow of President Marcos. We did most of our sketching at the man made lagoon.

976 – In the Chinese garden

After spending all morning getting prodded and poked so I could get a medical certificate last Friday, I decided to take a lunch break in Rizal Park. To one side of the park is the Chinese Garden – which apparently was built to promote friendship and the Philippines. The garden is a bit run down but it’s a nice quite spot to sketch.

657 – Dragon watching the crowds

Here is another sketch I did last Sunday in Hanoi, near Hoan Kiem Lake. The steps up to the statue of Ly Thai To have elaborate dragon balustrades on each side – which were overlooking the crowds of kids skateboarding and zooming around on rollerblades.

#655 – Park life – statue of who?

On my way back from my little sketch-walk on Saturday I stopped by a park and sketched this. I didn’t realise it at the time but the park (which was busy with skateboarders and kids in little motorised cars) is called Lenin Park…so no prizes for guessing who the statue is of.

#599 – Remains of Ayala triangle

Today I cycled to Makati for a meeting and locked my bike in a rack in Ayala triangle park. The guard said I could only leave it there if I was a messenger or a customer of the nearby cafes…so after my meeting I went for a coffee and drew this. The park used to be much bigger but a big chunk of the ‘triangle’ has now been eaten up by greedy developer Ayala. You can see the construction of yet another mall/office block behind the fence.
