Here is a late night doodle. The AC in our living room drips sometimes so we use a bowl to protect the couch – and our heads. The highlights on the bowl are there by chance – when I closed the sketchbook the paint was wet and sticky and the pages got glued together. When I opened it a few bits of the surface ripped off – so I just coloured it back in! I think it really improved the sketch.

Today my new indelible fountain pen ink finally arrived (from Pensgalore) so I got to try out my new Lamy pen. Lovely to use and of course the ink didn’t smudge when I added watercolour pencils and water.

Here is my drawing from last night – of course I have painted this before, but it’s good to practice. I am struggling to get across the wispy curtains and the darkness outside, so I will keep trying!

Sketching in watercolour and ink in my hotel room again last night – I think I’ve draw a similar view many many times, especially given that hotel rooms are so anonymous…I could be anywhere. Even so I don’t tire of reinterpreting the same scene.

Here is the quick ink and water-colour painting I did when I went for a walk in downtown Beirut. The church is near some roman ruins in a nice little park. Unfortunately I miss-timed my walk and it was getting dark as I sat down to draw!
