Here is a sketch I did at the mall last night, where we stopped for a drink and waited for my wife to finish an online meeting. I only had time to paint the yellow and green bits, but decided that was enough anyway!

Here is a very quick sketch of the newest member of our family “General Tapioca”. There is part of another drawing in this one – he doesn’t stay still for long, even when he’s sleeping. He’s the younger brother of Captain Haddock…so at the moment he looks like a “mini me” version of him! They are not quite friends yet, but getting there.

Yesterday I had a few minutes waiting outside the dentist (while my daughter got her teeth cleaned), so I sketched this (and added the colour at home). This is a little corner of the mall that I didn’t even know existed.

This is my wife’s office chair – brought in flat pack form from the UK a few years ago. I used to use one of these when I worked in the UK…it’s great if you get back ache sitting at a desk all day.

Here is the only sketch I managed to do while saying in Kilinochchi, in the north of Sri Lanka. We stayed in a little hotel called Lotus Cottage. It was a 7 hour drive in a minivan to get there, so I was pretty exhausted when we arrived.

When I am on one of my work trips and it takes time to get orientated and comfortable with a new locale and set up, I often start by sketching in my hotel room. So this is my first sketch in Sri Lanka, where my rather gloomy room, has two large stripy chairs. Hopefully I will have time to sketch outside, either after work or on the weekend.

I’ve been meaning to sketch this for some time, but needed to be in the right frame of mind because it’s quite a challenge to draw. This is one of our cats toys – and one he actually plays with. He bats the balls and they go round and round – though he somehow managed to get the one on the bottom layer out.

I am skipping ahead one day to post this because it’s international cat day today. This is our Siamese cat Captain Haddock. he’s not a lap cat, but prefers to be around you, so he always sits on the couch when I do and sleeps on the end of the bed. This sketch didn’t turn out at all like I wanted…his head is a lot bigger of course! For me every day is a cat day!

Here is another sketch done at Eagle Point Resort. The dining area has an elaborate (but clearly fake) candelabra. The dark beams are wooden, but the huge ones are concrete, painted (rather well) to look like timber.
