78-2469 – Wooden beads and shells

We’ve been doing some more de-cluttering and I found these old wooden beads and necklaces made of shells. My daughter wants me to keep them so she can use them to make jewellery. It was a real struggle to sketch this…I should have put them on a white background!

77-2465 – Face masks

Having moved back into our apartment (ages ago – after getting some refurbishment work done), we are finally getting round to putting up some of the decorations we have accumulated over the years. I’ve sketched them before, but these two masks come from Bhutan. Normally they are colourfully painted. The one with the little skulls is called a Mahakala mask – the scary expression is supposed protect from deception and distractions, keeping negativity away. The one with the big nose is an Atsara mask – more of a clown-like character.

77-2460 – What I’m reading

Actually I finished the book on top by Richard Osman…very quickly. I know he has been very successful, but I found the plot a bit shallow and the characters a bit hollow. I much prefer John Irving. I didn’t post (or sketch) yesterday because I have been a bit under the weather (as they say in the UK), with a cold.

77-2459 – Two metal flasks

I am always on the look out around our house for something to sketch – and then I just file it in my memory bank for an evening sketch. So I saw these two metal flasks standing together and liked the way one reflected in the other. At some point I’ve probably sketched both of them (after all I have sketched most objects in our house)…but I don’t care…it’s just good practice.

77-2458 – Today’s shopping

Anything will do as a subject for me to sketch – but I do like it to have a connection to what I have done during that particular day. I did this one after we were out in town and bought a few things from the hardware shop. They are standing on a super-useful fold up shopping bag which I usually have buried in my bag somewhere.
