96-2891 – Red lady

This sketch has nothing to do with #Inktober2024…I just wanted to draw this papaya before we ate it (and before it went off). This type is called “red lady, is scientifically known as Carica papaya and was originally developed in Taiwan. They have sweet, red flesh…yummy.

93-2837 – White cap

As I sketched this my nose was running and I was sneezing repeatedly – yes I caught a cold again. Goodness knows from where or whom I got it from. My colds are always exacerbated by my dust mite allergy …so it’s not a fun time. But at least I had the energy to draw this – I was given this cap when we joined the Kawit heritage tour.

93-2834 – Veggies for lunch

Here is another sketch of one of my favourite subjects – just some random veggies from the fridge. As is often the case with my sketches, I just started drawing on the left and then ran out of space on the right – but I don’t really care. Somehow the courgette also seems to be floating a bit.

93-2833 – Getting back in the groove

Since we got back from holiday, although I have been on two sketch-walks, I haven’t done many sketches in the evening (the jet lag didn’t help much with this habit). With this sketch of one of my favourite subjects (and favourite fruits) I was trying to get back into the habit of sketching everyday objects around the house.

90-2772 – Birthday flowers

These days, every time one of us gets flowers, I sketch them. These pink roses, carnations and daisies were given to my wife for her birthday, by our daughters. I sketched them using #Derwent watercolour pencils and a little bit of ink.

90-2746-47 – Tools

With these sketches I am on a to a new sketchbook – this one is number ninety! It was given to me a long time ago, is made by #PinkPig and has simple 150 gsm cartridge paper in it…which means it doesn’t take watercolour that well. It’s only A6 size (4.1×5.8 inches), but my idea was that as it’s small and is filled with cheap paper, it will encourage me to sketch more often and less carefully. These two sketches are of ‘tools’ around the house.

89-2745 – Wax flowers

That’s all of my life drawing for a while (some people who follow me, may feel relieved!). These are not flowers that are made from wax, I just tried out a different technique for a change and used some ancient wax crayons and wax relief with watercolour to draw this. I got these flowers (and some cinema tickets) from my daughters, for Father’s Day.

86-2689 – Bike rack

We bought this Hollywood bike rack (that fixes on the back of our car) years ago. When I tried to put it on the car a while back, it was so long since we’d used it, that I first put it on upside down. All those straps and buckles and get pretty confusing! As I often find with my sketches I ran out of space at the bottom of the page for this one.

84-2620 – Pickle then sketch

The other day I bought green chillies at the supermarket, but they only seemed to sell them in huge quantities. We only use a few each week at best, and then the rest of them go off, so I looked up a recipe to pickle them. Naturally after doing the pickling I sketched the result. We ate some of them with a meal a few days later – they turned out to be delicious, not too spicy (I took out the seeds) and crunchy!
