680 – Bahay Kubo

A Bahay Kubo or Nipa Hut is a indigenous Philippines house usually on stilts and made of bamboo and thatch. This is the most basic accommodation provided at the Kilyawan Resort – downstairs is a dining area and up the ladder is a small room with a bed on two levels – enough space for 3. It was comfortable and cool at night, but the whole structure shakes as you go up the ladder – it certainly wouldn’t remain standing in a typhoon.

679 – Disconnect to reconnect

Just as you head to the beach at the Kilyawan Resort, there are some “Beach Rules” – such as “Wake up smiling”, “Meditate Appreciate” and “Be Grateful for Today”. A little corny but well meaning and worth following if you are there to get away from it all.
