1513 – Market day

Yesterday I made my weekly visit to the vegetable market – of course wearing a mask and face shield as is required here these days. This is the fruit that I bought – apples (probably from China) in these weird pink protective mesh sheaths – and small oranges. Somehow the opera pink in my sketch doesn’t scan well, so the colours in this are a bit off.

1505 – More mangoes

It’s mango season and we are getting some delivered most weeks now. Repeating the same subjects doesn’t have to be boring – so this is a different take on my last sketch of a basket of fresh mangoes.

1494 – Mangos delivered

On the weekend we picked up some mangos we had ordered from a friend, who is supporting mango farmers in Guimaras. You’d think that 5 kilos would be too much, but they are so delicious I am sure we are going to eat them all up very soon. I sketched this on Monday but so late that I didn’t have time to post it.

1477 – New colours

Today we went out (thrills!) – to buy a new phone for my daughter who has had her place at University confirmed – and I stopped by the art shop to buy some more paint. I only intended to stock up on Yellow Ochre – a pretty essential colour. But I couldn’t resist buying some pink as well – one called “Opera” – almost fluorescent! Then of course I had to find something to sketch using my new colours. I was also thinking of my next prompt for #WorldWatercolorMonth (favourite scent – which happens to be the smell of fresh fruit). I had to tweak the colours after scanning this as the pink didn’t scan as bright as it came out on the painting.

1467 – Fruity

The prompt for day 9 of #WorldWatercolorMonth was fruit – an easy one for me, as I never tire of sketching fruit in a bowl. Each time it seems to look different. These are Fuji apples – I think they probably come from China. I much prefer local fruits though – each week we usually get through a bunch of bananas and a huge sweet “red lady” papaya. This week we also had 5 kilos of mangos from Guimaras …so we are feeling very fruity at the moment.

1463 – Green bananas

The prompt for day 5 of #WorldWatercolorMonth was “favourite colour”. Mine is green so this fresh bunch of bananas seemed like a good subject. We usually buy our bananas like this as they ripen off in the space of a day or so. Bananas also happen to be one of my favourite fruits!

1352 – Fruit from above

Here is a little sketch I did one morning (sticking to my habit of sketching before work while I still have jet lag) of my fruit bowl. Somehow my sketch made it look like I was hovering above the fruit – hence the title. I beefed up the colour with some scribbles of watercolour pencils…I do like the way I can get that dense layered look with them.
