985 – The park is for sleeping in

On Monday I was back in old Manila completing my medical certificate. Going between the clinic and the Bureau of Immigration I stopped in the park (called Agrifina circle apparently) to sketch. I couldn’t find out anything about this sculpture/fountain…maybe someone knows. Almost every sitting spot in the park (including on the grass in the shady areas) was occupied by tired looking workers having a midday snooze.

705 – High street fountain

I sketched this sitting outside the Arts Bar – a coffee shop and art suppliers in Serendra (a housing development with a nice walk through arcade). I’ve never seen any water coming out of this fountain, but it looks like it would be pretty dramatic! The bit in the middle is made up of sheets of glass.

#391 – Carriedo Fountain

Here is my second sketch done on our sketch-walk today – this fountain is in the plaza in front of Sta. Cruz Church. Apparently Francisco Carriedo y Peredo was a General who raised funds for the construction of a water system in Manila and this fountain was built to honour him.
