1130 – St. Peter’s Monks Eleigh

I finally got outside to sketch this in the village that my sister lives in. The church dates from 1350 though it was refurbished and rebuilt on the medieval foundations in the 19th century. It was lovely and sunny while I drew this – warm enough for me to take my jumper off!

1055 – Two gods at Faith Tabernacle

Here is another one of the churches that I pass on my way home. I sketched this quickly, leaning against a wall as I couldn’t find anywhere convenient to sit down. I also wanted to make sure I got the cellphone tower in the background as I thought this was an interesting contrast – certainly people spend a lot of time communing with their cell phones these days.

1051 – Church of St. Monica

I pass by this church each day, walking to and from work. I was attracted by the shape of the roof (which I would describe as a witches hat roof), but carelessly I started the drawing too high up the page and missed out the nice rusty red cross on top (which I think is a Celtic type).

773 – St. Francis

Here is the second drawing that I did with Urban Sketchers Manila on Saturday. On the right it Sta. Ana Church (also called Our Lady of the Abandoned) and to the left St. Francis High School. I had to rush to finish this before it started raining.

662 – Sta. Cruz cables

Here is my drawing of Santa Cruz Church in old Manila done on the Philippine Urban Sketchers March sketch-walk yesterday. We found a small shady spot next to the fountain in the traffic island to sketch from – it’s a pity though that everywhere you look are birds nests of cables!
