70-2296 – Paying tax

Here is another sketch from out trip to Baguio, which I did most of in-situ but finished off the other day. Apart from going on a trek up Mt. Ulap our main purpose of going to Baguio was to pay the Real Property Tax that is due each year, for a small plot of land we have. There is supposed to be a way of paying this on line (but every time we have tried it’s failed), so instead we use it as an excuse to take a little trip up north. I sketched this while my wife was inside City Hall paying the tax… there was nowhere to park so I sat there with the hazard warning lights flashing and sketched.

68-2243 – Skin cell van

I finally got out of the house and away from my computer and work for a while. I noticed this van parked in the compound where we live because most people have cars. SkinCell are a company offering laser skin treatment and so forth…I guess someone who works there is a neighbour. I think I was filmed on a phone while I sketched this…they didn’t ask for permission though!

67-2206 – On the steps

Here is a quick sketch I did sitting on the steps outside where we live. I ran out of ink after doing the basic shape of the car, so moved on to painting faster than I normally do (I did the background ink-work from a photo).

2022 – Mufflers

On Sunday we finally got the exhaust on our car fixed. We drove across town to a specialist and luckily they were open. I thought I would have plenty of time to do this sketch as they said it would take an hour to do the work…so I did lots of ink work. Then they finished 30 minutes early (I shouldn’t really complain), so I had to add the colour at home.

2020 – Not a fruitless trip after all

Yesterday I took our car to Ziebart-Carsavers to try and get the exhaust fixed, but after only a few minutes of inspection, they told me it can’t be repaired and needs to be replaced (which they couldn’t do). I only had a short wait in their reception area, but managed to do the ink work for this sketch, then added the colour from a photo when home. So at least I came away with something!

2001 – Drawing a black car

This is the last sketch in my current sketchbook (number 61 since I started sketching regularly in A5 sketchbooks). I joined my online friend @TheArtofBeingPresent and sat outside in a shaded gazebo (it’s boiling hot at the moment in the Philippines) to sketch this. As I have several times before, I found myself sketching a black car without any black paint, so used a combination of burnt umber, ultramarine and dark purple. The sketch overlapped a little with my last one (that’s why you can see more than one title and date).

1969 – Massive red car

Yesterday I took our car in for a long overdue service (we will have an eye watering bill coming up). While I was waiting for them to serve me I sat in the showroom right next to this massive red car. I did the basic ink work while I waited and finished it off at home with more ink and watercolour.

1930 – Sketching cars till dusk

When I started sketching this I thought, oh no I haven’t got any black in my little travel paint set…but in the end I enjoyed making black with other colours (mostly ultramarine and burnt umber). I could have fiddled about with this when I got back inside (as it was getting gloomy out there), but I decided to leave it (very restrained of me).
