101-3038-44 – Life drawing female model

This is the second batch of sketches I did at the #PensNBrushes life drawing session on 15 March. I was more satisfied with these and I thought the model held the poses better, compared to the male model. I used #Derwent #WatercolourPencils and some ink. As before we started with 2 minute poses and worked our way up to 20 minutes for the last one. I have struggled with the #Strathmore (ready cut 500 series hot press) paper I am using – getting some unwanted ‘blooms’ which I don’t expect from such expensive paper.

100-3031-7 – PensNBrushes life drawing

After what feels like a long gap, I joined #PensNBrushes for a life drawing class on 15 March (the last session I joined was in June 2024 (see post No.89-2742-43). Here are the sketches I did of the first (male) model – I can’t say I was really satisfied with any of these. I started with a #Derwent water soluble graphite pencil (which promptly broke when I was doing my first sketch), then switched to using #WatercolourPencils and some ink. I’ve noted on each drawing how much time we had – but we started with 2 minute poses and worked our way up to 20 minutes for the last one.

100-3013-7 – Life drawing session

Milen Garcia

Here are the sketches I did with the #SilawArtistCollective at the end of February. This session was in memory of Arnel Borja (a fellow artist), who sadly passed away in January. The models name was Milen Garcia and the event took place at Kapitolyo Art Space in Pasig. Each pose was about 20 minutes with some time added – though for the third pose I managed two sketches from different angles and then later added some doodles of the artists at work.

Model with artists

I used #Derwent watercolour pencils to start off, then added ink and watercolour. I think I was happiest with the last one, though as usual I struggled to draw her hand!

97-2932-3 – Sisters again

Chryzzel and Haia

Here are the last two sketches done when I joined the last #LifeDrawing session of 2024 with Eric David and the #SilawArtistCollective. In these both sisters Chryzzel (@chryzzelle) and Haia posed again. The two sketches are done with ink and watercolour, plus a few highlights and emphasis done with a white posca and a UniBall pen. The first of these is the one I was most satisfied with… I think I got their faces right, even if they look a bit too dark.

97-2930 – Goggles

Here is my first sketch from when I joined the last #LifeDrawing session of 2024 with Eric David and the #SilawArtistCollective. As before each pose was 15-20 minutes…usually with some time added. For this first one I stuck with ink and watercolour. The models name is Chryzzel (@chryzzelle)…unfortunately my sketch gave her panda eyes, which was not the case at all in real life.

97-2922 – A beautiful moment

Here is my last sketch done with with #UskManila at the Metropolitan Theatre, for the vaudeville “Samot-Saring Bida: Ang Bodabil ng Pag-asa” dress rehearsal. I did this one rather quickly standing at the back when the performers were in full costume, were finishing off their rehearsal and the when the director was giving everyone a pep talk…hence the title.

97-2921 – Christmas at the met

After sketching in the dark for a while (with #UskManila at the Metropolitan Theatre, for the vaudeville “Samot-Saring Bida: Ang Bodabil ng Pag-asa” dress rehearsal), I decided to do a little sketch in the lobby. I’ve sketched at the theatre before (see sketch No. 76-2434 of July 2023 for example) – and in fact sketched this bronze sculpture which is of Adam (Eve is at the other end of the lobby), by Italian artist Francesco Ricardo Monti. I had to correct some mistakes on his head a little (using my white posca pen like whiteout)… my focus was more on the Christmas tree…and this is an opportunity to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone who follows, comments and enjoys my sketches.
