Here is the last sketch I did in France – naturally at the airport (Charles de Gaulle), which is pretty fancy. This wasn’t our plane but I could see it easily when we found a nice spot to sit.

Here is the second sketch I did before leaving Manila – this time at the gate waiting for the plane. It was super crowded…perhaps when this terminal was built planes were smaller – because they certainly don’t have enough seats for the people waiting. Airports are always a great place to sketch people.

Here is my first sketch on our journey from Manila to Manchester, where we are spending Christmas. This was done while we waited in terminal one…for an unexpected extra 2 hours. Our flight was delayed but we didn’t get a notification from the airline, so turned up at the airport much earlier than we needed to.

Here is a sketch I did yesterday, while waiting for my wife in the car park of the airport cargo terminal. Sometimes long winded bureaucracy has its advantages.

Today I picked up my wife from the airport. I arrived fairly early and parked, which I don’t normally do (usually I time it better). I only had a few moments and this traffic control tower was the obvious subject to sketch.

After picking up our eldest daughter on Tuesday night, before she barely had time to repack or get some sleep, we headed back to the airport at something like 3am, to head off for a small holiday in Siquijor, which is the southernmost island in the Visayas and about 50km from northwestern Mindanao. I did this quick sketch while we were getting some coffee and all trying to stay awake.

I had a long layover in Changi airport in Singapore on my way back from Sri Lanka and was planning to sketch a lot….however it was getting late and I was pretty exhausted, so I only managed this one. If you look carefully (and if my drawing is clear) there are actually 4 people in this – one behind the other.

Here is my last sketch in Sri Lanka – done at the airport of course. I would rather have had sat right next to the window to get a better view of the planes, but that space seemed to be reserved for business class!

This is the second sketch I did while travelling to Sri Lanka. My flight included a stop in Singapore, where I ran across the airport (and took a ‘sky train’) to get to the right terminal and gate (because my PAL flight from Manila was delayed)…only to find the flight heading to Colombo was also delayed! I was also told there in a very off hand manner that my luggage had not arrived and all I could do was report it when I arrived in Sri Lanka…they were very casual and unhelpful as though it was no big deal. Thankfully moments before boarding I was told that it had been found. This un-finished sketch was done in between all that fun!
