Here is my sketch for Day 22 of #Inktober2021, the prompt being “open”. This is a tiny little silver box (probably something we bought in Bhutan) with a strange fish design. The drawing is almost life size…in fact I had to peer closely at the little fish in order to see it properly (failing eyesight!)

Here is my sketch for Day 21 of #Inktober2021 following the prompt of “fuzzy”. This is an old teddy bear that my daughter left behind when she went to the UK…can’t get much fuzzier than that! There is barely a unbroken line in my sketch.

The next prompt (for Day 20 of #Inktober2021) was “sprout”, so I decided to sketch this avocado pip that our daughter set up to germinate. It’s doing so well, I think it’s about time we planted it in some soil!

Here is my next sketch for #Inktober2021 following the prompt of “moon” – for day 18 (I am several days behind). This is a wooden mould for making Ka’ik (or ka’ak) – biscuits or bread-like snacks – in the Middle East. We have two of these and use them as trivets for hot dishes or pans. The pattern on this one makes me think of a sun surrounded by many moons!

So now I am back to following the #Inktober2021 prompts (this one being “collide”) – better late than never! These are Tibetan Buddhist Tingsha cymbals made of quite thick metal – probably some kind of bronze – that we got when we lived in Bhutan. They are used in prayers and rituals and struck together to produce a high pitched tone.

Here is the third sketch I did on Sunday when I joined the #UrbanSketchersKyusi group for the global #SketchTogether event. I’d love to be able to say something about this sculpure of three boys playing, but I can’t find anything about it on the internet. Maybe someone will know. I twas tricky getting the bronze/metalic feel against the green background…so that took a bit of extra work at home.

On Sunday I joined the #UrbanSketchersKyusi group for the global #Usk #SketchTogether event. It’s been almost 2 years since we could meet up and it was so nice to be out sketching with a group again. We went live on Instagram for a few minutes like many other @urbansketchers groups around the world as people were sketching around the world for 24 hours. We met up at Quezon Memorial Circle – which is a big park (kind of in the middle of a massive roundabout). This 66 meter tall mausoleum in the middle contains the remains of the second President of the Philippines. At the top are stone angels looking down on everyone.
