950 – Kitchen theme

I am a bit behind posting sketches again, as I have been down in Brighton. This one was done at my parents house last Friday playing around with a new set of Faber-Castell brush pens (plus some watercolour).

949 – Cafe Rouge in Bury

On Wednesday I made a quick visit to Bury St. Edmunds to my favourite shop (Denny Bros – an art supply shop of course) and had a few moments to sketch this. After doing this drawing I found out that the red building is a 19th century Grade 1 listed building designed by Ipswich architect John Sherwell Corder. At the lower level is a terracotta frieze with dragons, serpents and the three crowns of St. Edmund….something I never would have known if I hadn’t sketched this.

946 – Two horses by the fire

Over last weekend I went down to the west of the UK to visit some friends. The weather was really foul on Saturday – blowing a gale, rainy and cold. So instead of going out we sat by the fire, watched Strictly Come Dancing, ate dinner and drank G&T’s. Of course I didn’t concentrate on Strictly but sketched instead. My friends have two horses stabled nearby, but in this drawing you can see the legs of some cast metal ones.

944 – Christmas stools

On Wednesday we went to buy a Christmas tree in Hadleigh. Afterwards we had a coffee in a little cafe called Crabtree’s and I had a brief moment to sketch someone perching on one of the bar stools which are decorated with tinsel. Now I realise how difficult tinsel is to paint!
