This is a statue of the Philippines national hero, Jose Rizal, at Paranaque City Hall. I didn’t capture the tree behind him very well, but the yellow blossoms were amazing. For this I used water soluble ink, pencil, oil pastel and acrylic ink.

Oh, I love the tree behind him. It sort of glows and the yellow-orangish aspect of the tree contrasts with the cool blue of the ceiling next to it. It’s very dramatic. The contre-jour on the statue’s face is nice too. The unpainted white page at the bottom adds an interesting light to the picture also. A lot of neat, subtle things going on.
