103-3111-2 – Life drawing – couples

15 mins

Here is the last batch of sketches I did at the #PensNBrushes life drawing session on 3 May, of the two models together. Both of these took about 15 minutes. As before I used water soluble ink in an old #Rotring pen and added watercolour washes.

103-3103-10 – Life drawing – fisherman

2 mins

Here are some more of the sketches I did at the @PensNBrushesArt life drawing session on 3 May. These are the ones of the male model. I found it difficult to draw him because he wasn’t great at staying still and because of the added accessories (hat, fishing net and water gourds), which I find a bit distracting. Even so the last sketch in this batch (done in 20 minutes) was the one I was most satisfied with over the whole session.

101-3061 – Greens

The other day I drew all the fruit that was yellow – this time we seemed to have bought a lot of green fruit (bananas, avocado and mangos – none of them ripe yet), so I thought I’d have a go at sketching them all. For this I used just my #Derwent #WatercolourPencils. One of my favourite sketchers (@art_allajordan) uses a lot of watercolour pencils (prismacolor and polychromos – so different to mine), but that inspired me to try this.

101-3038-44 – Life drawing female model

This is the second batch of sketches I did at the #PensNBrushes life drawing session on 15 March. I was more satisfied with these and I thought the model held the poses better, compared to the male model. I used #Derwent #WatercolourPencils and some ink. As before we started with 2 minute poses and worked our way up to 20 minutes for the last one. I have struggled with the #Strathmore (ready cut 500 series hot press) paper I am using – getting some unwanted ‘blooms’ which I don’t expect from such expensive paper.

100-3021 – Melon

This is a rare sketch (from me) with no ink! I was planning to do some more to it, after an initial splash of colour (and while I waited for it to dry…I am usually too impatient), but went back to it later and thought it looks fine without any more detail.

96-2904-5 – Orange chair shadows

Orange chair

Here are the last two sketches I did with Eric David and the #SilawArtistCollective, the other day. Like the others, these were meant to be just 15 minute poses, but I think we went over that time. As before the model was @liza_paxley.

96-2903 – Boots

This is the second sketch I did with with Eric David and the #SilawArtistCollective, the other day. I think this is the one I was most satisfied with – I think the more splashy style (much more like the paintings I did when I was at University), was boosted by the (rather strong) gin cocktail that we were very kindly given! I am pretty sure we went over our 15 minute time for this pose…but the model (@liza_paxley) was very patient and stayed nice and still.

94-2856 – Discover-explore

Here is version four of the “same subject different ways” challenge with @koosjekoene – this time limiting my palette to two colours only, picking out the leaf green of the teapot and the cobalt blue of the cup. I thought I could combine this sketch with the #Inktober2024 prompt for day 2, which is “discover”, as following the #DrawTipTuesday challenge is a #CreativeExploration for me. I added some highlights with a #PoscaPen and some shadows with my trusty #UniballEye pen.
