112-3324 – More movie recommendations

Here are some sketches of a TV show and a movie that I have enjoyed recently. (See Sketch No.111-3302 for others). The first is “Late Shift”, a Swiss film I think. Very intense and not a minute wasted. If you think nurses don’t deserve higher pay or wonder why there is a shortage in Europe then watch this. The second is “Somebody Somewhere”. Surprisingly good and nice to see real Americans and lots of oddball characters. Both are shows where nothing much happens but are somehow great. I usually prefer to sketch from life…but I find sketching stills from the TV is a good way to practice faces.

111-3302 – Movie recommendations

I watched two very good films recently, so I thought I’d sketch scenes from them. The first (at the top) is “On falling” about a picker in a warehouse somewhere in the UK. It was very poignant and makes you think hard about buying from exploitative companies like Amazon. The second was “Anniversary” – it was very American-centric but quite scary and prescient. Sketching this also gave me a chance to sketch faces…which you can see I need a lot of practice at!

110-3271 – We have discovered another class M planet

I wasn’t sure what to draw on this particular evening – but I like to sketch something that relates to what I am up to – so for a change I took a couple of random stills of what I was watching and sketched that. I have finished watching #StarTrekVoyager and I am now going back to watching #StarTrekTheNextGeneration – which I never fully saw.

96-2894 – Voyager

My approach to the #Inktober2024 subject for Day 24, was to do word association, starting with the prompt of ‘expedition’, leading to ‘journey’, ‘voyage’ and then ‘voyager!’. I very rarely sketch from the TV but the obvious thing for me was to sketch a few random scenes of some episodes of Star Trek Voyager that I was watching. I took a photo of the screen and worked on the drawing from my iPad, so that I could continue to half-watch while I sketched.
