1587 – Falling tree

We have had some powerful typhoons here recently and several trees in our communal garden have fallen over. This one came close – the roots on the right have all lifted out of the ground – so the gardeners are trying to prop it up with some metal frames (they look too feeble to have much affect to me). They also appear to be trying to hold it down with a lump of concrete that is attached to the end of that rope.

1487 – Shine

I am not sure why I am still trying to catch up with the #WorldWatercolorMonth prompts seeing that August is now underway – but here is one anyway. This is following the prompt of “shine” for the 27th. My daughter made a mobile out of old CD’s and at night they reflect the lights brilliantly. In the background, outside, there is a huge palm tree.

1478 – Wiggly leaves

Today for a change I ventured outside into our common garden area, so sketch something. I’ve sketched these trees before – I particularly like to sketch these palm trees (which I think are called Traveler’s Palm). The leaves remind me of banana plants. My next #WorldWatercolorMonth prompt was “wiggle” – wiggly leaves was the closest I could come!

1466 – Fall

Here is my sketch for day 8 of #WorldWatercolorMonth. The subject was “fall” and I thought of Autumn (that’s what we call fall in the UK) and falling leaves. This seed pod is from an elephants ear or earpod tree (Latin name Enterolobium cyclocarpum – I am not sure what the common name in the Philippines is). I’ve had this around the house for some time and have been meaning to sketch it for ages – it’s such a peculiar thing.

1456 – Loitering by the pool

Our shared pool is finally open – though you have to book in advance to use it and very few people can use it at one time. Also the security guards are now less strict about people hanging about getting some fresh air outside. I took that as an opportunity to get out and sketch two of my favourite subjects – trees and a swimming pool.

42-1354 – Bougainvillea and palm

This is my first sketch in my new sketchbook – lovely heavy paper, but as always it will take a little time to get used to the change. On Fridays we finish work at 4pm and it only takes me 20 minutes to get home, so I jumped at the chance to sketch this view from my apartment. Even so, the light was fading fast as I finished.

40-1293 – Winter trees

Last weekend I drove down to Brighton to see my daughter. I arrived early and had 30 minutes to wait while she came from the train station…naturally I took the opportunity to sketch, but decided staying in the warm of the car was the best idea! This sketch looks towards Queen’s Park.
