Last night we saw the New Year in with my parents…watching firework displays on TV and some episodes of Fawlty Towers…a classic British comedy. My sketch is of some of the decorations on and around the Christmas tree. Happy New Year everyone!

Here is one of my evening paintings of random stuff on the dining table – I like using watercolour when it splashes around and behaves unexpectedly. But I also like to make marks and intensify bits of the painting with watercolour pencils.
PS I did this on my mums’s birthday…so it’s dedicated to her!

Thursday evening I wasn’t sure what to draw…so then I thought, I’ll just draw everything. I think I need a bigger sketch book though. This is done in water-soluble ink and watercolour.

Here is my ink and watercolour drawing from last night – something I’ve drawn several times, but I still like the way it came out. Simple is best sometimes.

I didn’t want to go far to draw today – but who needs to when you have all these circular objects around! This was done in watercolour, ink and watercolour pencils…I should have started earlier as the light went towards the end and all the shadows changed.
Today I painted a collection of table decor in our common clubhouse – the Buddha head is cast metal, the green wooden stand had a candle at the top (cut off in the drawing) and the orchids were plastic! I used my current favourite technique – water soluble ink lines first, then watercolour painting (which blends with the ink and loosens the hard lines), then touches of watercolour pencil, soluble graphite pencil and black ink wash to finish off.
We got a new gate-leg table today…this drawing doesn’t show it very well though. Nevertheless I did this drawing of it in water soluble ink and used a light water soluble graphite pencil for the washes.
