This is a sketch of my wife’s iPad stand (a Christmas present), done while Grey’s Anatomy played in the background. I sketched this with a random pen that was laying around (a Lovein 0.3mm biro) and needed to work on it a bit until I was satisfied.

Somehow I managed to loose my old SwissArmy knife on the way back from our last holiday in the UK, so my daughters bought me this one as a replacement, for Christmas. This one has even more widgets on it! I usually use it to sharpen pencils and open bottles of wine and beer on holiday, but now I can saw things and snip paper!

Here is the Christmas present I got from my sister – some Anker SoundCore P30i noise cancelling earbuds. These are a good affordable substitute for Apple AirPods – which I loved but finally the battery packed up. I found it challenging to sketch such a black object!

I usually sketch the presents I got at Christmas to say thank you. These are some of them – two different types of coffee, chocolate and shaving cream from Human Nature. I wasn’t sure where I was going with this sketch…I started with simple shapes and then used Watercolour Pencils to add texture and detail.

Here is another Christmas present – that I got from one of my nephews. I tried to draw this a few days before this and made a bit of a mess of it (I didn’t get past a few ink lines and getting the shape all wrong). In this version I found it easier to use watercolour pencils, a more splashy style and focus on negative shapes (the brown table background) to capture the white thermos mug.

Here is another one of our Christmas presents – this one being from one of our nieces – a lovely set of little bowls. Each one has a different pattern inside and I belatedly realised that this makes it hard to sketch them and capture the pattern!

Here is another sketch of a Christmas gift I received. I asked specifically for a new back-scrubbing brush. The grey handled brush in this sketch is ancient and has lost most of it’s bristles, the other (with the circular head) is already falling apart, as the bristles are set in a piece of plastic that is nailed to the wooden handle. I drew this using a dip pen and some mystery ink I found in my art kit…obviously the ink is not permanent as I thought it was.

Here is another sketch of Christmas gifts – this time of some of the things my sister-in-law so kindly sent for us in her #BalibayanBox. As I said in my post from 7 Feb last year (post 70-2301), when I sketched the same subject, Balikbayan box literally means repatriate box. Each year we get lots of goodies from Canada – dried fruits, tins of mixed beans and things we can’t easily buy here.

Here is another Christmas present I got in December. It’s a cuddly toy monkey that hangs from it’s arms and with a pouch inside for a roll of tissue paper. You then pull the tissues out of the monkey’s backside…this just makes me smile every time I look at it!
