90-2770 – Minor basilica and archdiocesan shrine

This sketch was done at the local Saint Anne Parish church, where we cycled to last Sunday morning. The first church on this site was built in 1609 but after several earthquakes the present one was started in 1883. I sketched here way back on 12 May 2016, when I first began sketching regularly (see post No.40 on my blog). That time I managed to get the whole tower in…my current small format sketchbook tends to make me focus on details…that’s my excuse anyway.

87-2699 – Serendra

Here is the second sketch I did on Sunday 12th May, when my wife and I cycled to Market Market!, to do a bit of shopping (and sketching). This is a view from Serendra (described as a ‘modern complex featuring a variety of shops & restaurants with condos above them’ on one website), looking down the BGC High Street – yet another shopping area. I’ve sketched these decorative street lights before (see post 995 in February 2019), when I said they look like pairs of people hugging or bowing.

87-2698 – Seattle’s Best

On Sunday 12th May, my wife and I cycled to Market Market!, to do a bit of shopping…plus it was my wife’s first “urban cycle” – meaning the first time for years for her to brave the traffic on a bicycle in Metro Manila. We cycled the long way round, so that we could avoid steep hills and narrow crowded roads. Once we got there we had breakfast in #SeattlesBest. I added the colour to this when at home.

86-2689 – Bike rack

We bought this Hollywood bike rack (that fixes on the back of our car) years ago. When I tried to put it on the car a while back, it was so long since we’d used it, that I first put it on upside down. All those straps and buckles and get pretty confusing! As I often find with my sketches I ran out of space at the bottom of the page for this one.

86-2688 – Boiling hot Manila Bay

Here is the second sketch I did on #LabourDay when my wife and I went for a cycle ride near SM MOA (Mall of Asia). I felt sorry for anyone working in the area that day – it was so hot. At least I went to buy some iced tea from the #Zagu stand after sketching this.

86-2687 – No cycling here

On #LabourDay my wife and I went for a cycle ride near SM MOA (Mall of Asia). We thought the cycle loop there included cycling along Manila Bay, but were told not to cycle along the very wide pathway, with all the nice little places to eat (including even the Bikers Café), and instead use the road where there is just a white line between you and careless drivers. There are even bike racks regularly spaced along the path…and nearby signs saying ‘push your bike’. This sketch was done in Starbucks where we escaped the heat for a while.
