1995 – Back to malling

Last week I visited SM Aura (one of the posh malls near us), to sort out a new plan for my phone (which took hours). I sketched this while I had a coffee and snack for lunch. Try as I might I can never get the Starbucks logo right – this time she looks more like a bloke. Malling is a Filipino invented verb meaning to go to a shopping mall (usually they are air conditioned) and while away the hours strolling about but not buying much. Apparently the Philippines has three of the world’s 10 largest shopping malls.

1789 – Today’s shopping

On Monday I decided to just sketch the deliveries we had that day – the sieve is for the garden to sort out our composting worms from the compost they have kindly created. Shopping has changed dramatically where we live – so much more can be bought on line!

1015 – Busy scene at Tiendesitas

Searching for a shady spot last Saturday I sat in the pet grooming area of Tiendesitas (a shopping area made up of lots of teeny weeny shops). There really was too much going on in this scene but I tried to unify it with the toned down colour scheme…not sure if it really worked.

932 – Pizza Express

Here is a quick sketch done at Pizza Express while waiting for our lunch/dinner after an afternoon of pushing my mother around Freeport-Braintree – an outside shopping mall of supposedly discount factory outlet shops. I only had a short moment to draw the huge lampshade – the pizza came quickly!
