98-2970 – Yoghurt maker

It might seem like there has been a gap in my sketching habit, but I’ve been spending my evenings finishing off partly done sketches, instead of doing new ones. It’s not a great habit to leave them partly done – painting from photos afterwards doesn’t work for me and the colours never seem right. I looked at the #DrawTipTuesday video of @KoosjeKoene on YouTube to get the inspiration for this – she suggested experimenting with some unused materials. So I picked up some old coloured pencils (not water soluble) and drew our yoghurt maker (it was my wife’s excellent idea to get one – it was quite cheap and makes lots of little pots from a starter).

87-2701 – Mother’s Day

My wife get’s to celebrate two mother’s days each year (she deserves it), as our daughters are half Filipino and half British. The Philippines celebrates Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of each May. However in the UK it is celebrated about three weeks before Easter (rooted in the Christian observance of lent). These are the flowers our daughters sent on 12th May. For a change, in this sketch I used watercolour pencils (they are all #DerwentStudio except the purple violet which is #FaberCastell) and used negative space to show the white flowers.

05-451 – Sra Beer Angkor

Here is another sketch from my archive of Cambodia #UbrbanSketches. I drank a fair bit of Sra Beer Angkor – a locally made beer – when I lived there. Although I learnt to speak Khmer fairly well, I couldn’t read or write very well – though I did learn how to write Sra Beer Angkor – that’s what is written on the red sign in this sketch.
